Our story

Yoga that meets you where you are

Strength-based, accessible, and genuinely welcoming — here's the story behind Action Yoga Reno.

How it started

From injury to a new way to move

Action Yoga Reno began in 2023, but the story really starts with an injury. After getting hurt, Stu Stringham went looking for a way back to feeling strong — and found AYAMA yoga, a style built around rehabbing and preventing injury rather than chasing extreme flexibility.

It worked. And it sparked something: a drive to share a kind of yoga that helps people stay active and live pain-free, no matter their age or starting point.

Today, Stu Stringham, Owner/Instructor at Action Yoga Reno, is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) — trained to teach safely and adapt every class to the people on the mats.

The approach

What makes AYAMA different

AYAMA stands for Applied Yoga Anatomy & Muscle Activation. Instead of stretching muscles until they're loose and vulnerable, AYAMA activates and strengthens them — building stability and resilience.

For a lot of students, it feels closer to physical therapy than a typical yoga class. It's especially powerful for people living with chronic pain or recovering from injury. And woven through it all is a genuine meditative element — a chance to quiet your mind while you work.

It's challenging. It's also completely approachable. Every pose has options, and you're never asked to do something that doesn't serve your body.
